Mission Statement:
A Company of Girls seeks to strengthen and empower youth and the community through the arts.

Adams Builds Community
A Company of Girls recently lost its space at 10 Mayo Street where we have been for 10 years. We have found a new home at the former Adams School on Moody Street in Munjoy Hill. Help us try to make this our permanent home!

A Company of Girls(ACOG) is an after school theatre and arts-based resiliency program for girls aged 8-18. ACOG is located at the former Adams School on Moody Street on Munjoy Hill in Portland. The members of ACOG are from many diverse communities in the greater Portland Area. Transportation is provided for those girls who need it to get to and from the program.

At ACOG, girls can come together after school and learn about theatre, film, the arts, and social skills. It is a safe place where they can discuss issues that are important to them. It is also a fun place, just for them, where they can discuss "girl things." Their time together also includes journaling, painting, attending arts events, creative writing, sleepovers, apple picking, community service, pot-luck family dinners, dancing, fundraising, and much, much more.

ACOG is composed of four different mixed age ensembles and meets from 3:15-5:30 throughout the entire school year, with breaks that coincide with school holidays. Each ensemble produces at least one play a year. Productions have included Romeo and Juliet, Queen Lear, Lord of the Flies, Cynderella Cycle, On the Bench and Sticky Like a Frog, and A Wrinkle In Time.

In 2004, a film program was initiated at A Company of Girls, with girls creating their own narrative pieces, video self-portraits, haiku films, and documentaries. Filmmaking encourages individual voice and vision while also building collaborative skills. In conjunction with the film program, ACOG is the proud producer of the Maine Women & Girls Film Festival.

Additionally, A Company of Girls supports community involvement and hosts an annual summer camp.
