The Arthur Hall Award

Arthur L. Hall was a community leader and activist who dedicated his life to helping his fellow humans find the inherent beauty within themselves and expand their horizons through music and dance.
The Arthur Hall Award was created to honor the work of an artist in the state of Maine, who - by their artistry and commitment to work within their community - has enriched and transformed the lives of those they have encountered and thus the State of Maine.  Past recipients are Pricilla Dreyman of Spiral Arts, Inc.  and Natasha Mayers, artist and activist. This years recipient is Brady Nickerson.

The Arthur Hall award is given annually to the nominee who most successfully meets the following selection criteria:

• A history of creating positive change through the arts within their community and/or throughout the State of Maine.
• Fostering quality artistic expression & the integration of the arts into daily life.
Inspiring others to use the arts as a tool to bridge gaps in their community.

“We have changed the world through our music and dance. There is no place you go without listening to black music. There is no place now where you go and people are not dancing like black people. We have touched the heart of the world. I call this the quiet revolution. We have changed the world, and we didn't use a gun.”   (Arthur Hall, The Weekly Spectator, Accra, Ghana, 1/12/91)

Stocking Stuffer Program

Once again, this holiday season was filled with incredible generosity and love over here at 10 Mayo Street. The “Stocking Stuffer Program”, helped to bring holiday cheer to needy families in the Portland area.  45 very thankful families and 120 happy children received gifts of toys, clothing, food and household items from our Stocking Stuffers and we are so excited to see what the coming years will bring as the “Stocking Stuffer Program” jingles on!  CMP, SAPPI, L.L. Bean, Queen of Hats, The Leap Frog Foundation, Market Street Eats, The Sunshine Rotary, Systems Engineering and 15 individual members of the community joined forces and pockets to support our efforts and A Company of Girls families came together to wrap the presents.
