On February 14 we ventured into the woods at Gilsland Farm with the citizen scientist mission of conducting a conifer count.
We chose one trail to focus on and divided it into five mapped out sections.
The girls formed research teams of two. Each group, equipped with a “Forest Trees of Maine” field guide, branched out and tallied their count on an illustrated chart.
Their photographs captured the variety of conifers they encountered in the shadowy forest light of the warm winter afternoon.
